SUMMARY :
Ever since she was a child, Louise Knight has known she wanted to be a doctor. She studied hard and never gave up, exceeding all expectations. Not much later, she'd been matched up for a surgical residency at Cook County General Hospital. For five years, she learned everything she could under the teachings of Dr. Donald Anspaugh. But one Valentine's Day had changed everything.

When a schizophrenic patient attacked the staff in the ER and the life of her younger sister, Lucy Knight, was tragically lost, Louise decided to leave Chicago ━ and even medicine, if only for a little while ━ and never look back. She couldn't bear to be in the city anymore, let alone the hospital where her little sister had been brutally murdered. The memories were far too painful.

Although five years have come and gone, Louise will never forget what happened to her sister that fateful night. She carries Lucy with her every single day. But it is time. Louise Knight is ready to step foot in another hospital and continue her work to become a great doctor one day ━ just as she and Lucy always dreamed of when they were children.

Now, Louise will find herself standing at the threshold of Seattle Grace Hospital, a long way away from Chicago ━ just as she'd planned. It is here that she will not only find the strength to overcome what happened to her younger sister, but find love for the first time in her life.

ADDITIONAL NOTES :
━ Louise (born 1970) and Lucy Knight (born 1974) were born and raised in Riverside, California. As kids, they shared a dream of becoming doctors. While Louise wanted to specialize in general/trauma surgery, Lucy wanted to work in the ER.

━ They both matched up at Cook County General Hospital in Chicago. Obviously, Louise did first because she is older than Lucy. But a few years later, Lucy eventually matched up in Chicago as well and the sisters were happy to work together.

━ After the death of Lucy in the year 2000, Louise stopped practicing medicine and quit her job in Chicago. She moved back to California and then five years later would pick up her scalpel again in Seattle.

━ Louise has a lot of PTSD surrounding her sister's death. This is the main reason why she stopped practicing medicine for as long as she did. It was incredibly hard for her to step foot inside a hospital without thinking about what happened to Lucy. But Louise eventually realized that she needed to fulfill their dream for the both of them, and so she got back to work.

━ Upon her arrival at Seattle Grace Hospital, Louise will have a few minor episodes. Mainly panic attacks where she'll hide herself in a closet or on-call room to wait it out until it passes. I mean, you know how the characters of Grey's Anatomy can be. Louise will be damned if she lets any of them know her trauma.

━ In short, it has been a very long time since she's been inside a hospital again. And even though she's putting on a brave face, she's thinking of Lucy and always will. But things will get better for Louise as the show progresses and she lets people in again.

━ Also, for obvious reasons, Louise hates Valentine's Day. She doesn't celebrate the holiday and actively avoids it at all costs. So, naturally, when someone asks her out for Valentine's Day, she declines. Yes, even if that person is Mark. She just doesn't celebrate a holiday in which her sister was brutally stabbed.

━ Louise and Mark are a slow burn. I don't see them getting together for at least a season and a half, maybe two seasons. She's the kind of person that needs to befriend you and get to you really well before she can even consider dating you.

━ All episodes of Grey's Anatomy where a patient attacks the hospital in some way will trigger Louise. I have ideas for these specific episodes, which I will share privately with the person that adopts this plot. All others ideas I have will also be shared.

━ Doug Ross and Carol Hathaway from ER will be featured throughout this fic from time to time. For those that remember, Doug moved to Seattle and Carol eventually moved there with their twin daughters to be with him. So once Carol realizes that Louise works at Seattle Grace Hospital, she'll make sure they stay in contact with each other.

━ Lastly, you may take this story beyond season 9 if that is what you prefer. I only put season 9 down for obvious reasons. But you can write Louise as far into the show as you want.
